Weighing In 3/20/2017

248.75 down from 249.25 yesterday.

It's coming off. More slowly now, but it's coming off.

Even when I cheat a little, it comes off, though probably at a slightly slower rate. Yesterday, I ate an extra bread serving late at night. My stomach was growling and sleep was therefore escaping me. After I ate one slice of Wasa Multigrain, my stomach stopped growling and I got to sleep.

Well, if I have to cheat like that, it's still an improvement over the fatty diet I was eating up until 3/14. I've been eating this way for just about a week. I feel good (I always feel good on this program). My energy is up (my house hasn't been this clean for awhile now), I'm waking up around 7:30 - 8 and going to bed around 11 (regular hours help with insomnia), and I'm not puffy at all. My ankles are slim. No congestive heart failure for me, thank you!! And that A1C that was at 5.7 last year (slightly elevated; a normal A1C is "below 5.7," according to the Mayo Clinic) can go down, too. I won't see that decrease in this blood work upcoming (I have a scrip for blood work that I must fulfill soon) since A1C measures the blood glucose trend over a couple of months, but it will show up next year.

Weighing In 3/19/2017

249.25, down from 249.5 yesterday. Next goal: dip the scales below 240.

And now the work begins. The euphoric multi-pound water weight loss is evidently done; now I start to lose the fat, and that comes off oh so much more slowly than does water. But that's what I need to lose, so the fits and starts will frustrate me but they will not deter me.

For pre-breakfast this morning, I will have a lemon water (cut a lemon into 1/8 sections and squeeze one section into a glass of water eight times per day) and vitamins. For breakfast, I'll have pan-seared salmon on a bed of baby spinach, a Wasa bread, half a pear, and lemon water. For midmorning snack, I'll have a Wasa bread and lemon water. For lunch, I'll finish off last night's chicken soup (chicken, veggies, cilantro, fresh-ground black pepper, a little pink salt) and lemon water. For mid afternoon snack, I'll have half a pear and lemon water. I'll drink another lemon water at about 4:30. For dinner, I'll have vitamins, a bran pancake (1 egg, 2 tbsp unprocessed bran, a dash of cinnamon, scramble it all together and cook like a pancake on a hot griddle) and lemon water. And to top it off for the day, I'll have an apple and lemon water before 8 pm.

Exercise. I'm going to physical therapy to loosen up my hips and that counts as exercise. But it's time to haul out the Nordic Track and start moving on that, at least while there are two feet of snow on the ground (thank you, Winter...). I dropped my Y membership (it will end on either 31 March — if they do the right thing — or on 30 April). I'm not going back there, at least not for a few years; they upped their membership fee and informed their members of the raise in such a way that the members were forced to pay at least one month of the increased fee. Not nice. It's not the extra $2 that's my problem; it's the timing of telling the members.

I thought yesterday evening that I should post measurements again, but I'm not going to do that yet; I haven't lost enough to make any real difference there. Measurements will get posted with each loss of 10 lb., starting at 239 lb. I can say, though, that clothes are starting to fit better.

Speaking of clothes, I'm not looking forward to the expense of a new wardrobe. The wardrobe I have now is the one that Jim bought for me, it has lots (and lots...) of lovely suits and clothes in it, and he spent $thousands on it before we were even married. He wanted his lady to dress well! Well, the clothes are all in good shape; they will get donated when I shrink entirely out of them. That will deter me from ballooning back up.

Weighing In 3/18/2017 - First Minigoal Reached!!

249.5. Below 250!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Down from 251.75 yesterday.

I immediately went to smile.amazon.com and ordered "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." That's my reward for breaking the 250 mark. It's not yet released; amazon thinks I'll get it on/about 3/28, which is fine.

Weight does not come off at this rate forever; that would not be healthy. Yes, I understand that this is mostly water weight (boy, do I ever understand that; this diet diureses the body, cleans the toxins right out). It will go from 1.5-2 lb/day to 1.5-2 lb/week soon enough. Meanwhile, I enjoy the euphoria.

I should post pictures of myself along the way. Here's the first set. Not the best photos, but quite the gut, huh? Well, blow me; it's 6.5 lb less than it was when I started on 3/14.

Pictures will be forthcoming the first day of every month.

Weighing In 3/17/2016

251.75 today, down from 252.75 yesterday.

My urine smells of ketones. That tells me that the pound lost is a pound of flesh, not of water. At this rate, I should reach my first mini-goal next week. My reward will be a blu-ray of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

There will be stops and starts, whole weeks without the number changing, but this lifestyle plan does give one a phenomenal boost at the beginning!

Weighing In - 3/16/2017 and Happy Birthday to My Husband

252.75 this morning. Yesterday was 254.25. And, despite shoveling far too much snow yesterday, I feel good.

The consistent 1.5-2 lb/day thing will end fairly soon; this diet pulls fluids through the kidneys. Once that normalizes, fat will come off, and that leaves far more slowly than does water.

Today begins the Reducing Diet. 950-1200 cals daily. I have in the past regularly broken that and still lost weight like a bandit. I break it with fruit. I eat more fruit than the DC diet allows. Well, sue me; it still works at the rate of 10 lb/month.

I celebrate my husband's 73rd birthday (the third birthday since his death in December 2014) by commencing on the path to get healthy. I think he'd like that.

Weighing In 3/15/2017

254.25 this morning. Yesterday was 256. That's water gone (I pee a LOT during the first two days of this weight-loss lifestyle)

The first day went well; I didn't even manage to down all that I was supposed to eat, and I was STUFFED when I went to bed last night.

Starting Again 3/14/2017

Another start. I have regained about 15 of those 35 lbs I lost in 2015. I was depressed over Jim's passing in December 2014 and hit the highest point I've ever hit on the scale then. I'm still sad that Jim's gone, but I'm not going there again.

Today I start on the Diet Center's two-day conditioning diet. For a food addict like me, this is an easy diet to follow; I get to eat — A LOT — over these two days. And I will spend the next two days on the toilet; these two days squeeze water out of the tissues and into the urinary bladder. After the two days, the real work begins and the kidneys settle down somewhat.

I've done the Diet Center's diet before (I lost weight with them when I was in my 20s and I kept the three books that guide the diet) and I always feel good when I do it. It's good food — lots of fresh veggies, fewer fresh fruits (that's a pity; I like fruits better than veggies), good proteins, and it's a study in portion control. If I fill up a dinner plate, it's with raw green leafy veggies; those I can eat in unlimited quantities, but I have to be sparse with dressing.

I've generally lost about 10 lbs/month on this diet. I'm starting at 258 lb. So ... at 10 lbs/month, in a year I'll have lost about 100 lbs. That would be a healthy thing to do. And I need to do it. Not "want" this time; "need."

Current weight: 256 lb
Current bust: 49.5
Current waist: 51
Current hips: 48
Current upper arm: L: 15 R: 15
Current mid-thigh: L: 23.5 R:25
Current calf: L: 16 R: 16

Gah. I am a candied apple on two sticks. Goal shape: hourglass.

Goal weight: 150, but we'll do that in 10-lb chunks. I expect each chunk to take about a month. I'll celebrate the loss of each 10 pounds with a non-food-related kicking up of the heels.

First Mini-Goal Weight: Get the scale below 250. That'll be huge.

I can lose the weight; I've done it before and I can do it again. The trick is keeping it off. Aye, there's the rub. I did find an online version of Overeaters Anonymous for support. Maybe I just haven't given it a chance, but it hasn't yet worked for me. They all sound to me like they're whining and I don't like that.

Gotta go cook those two eggs and slice the grapefruit for breakfast!
